American Billie Jean King reached the semi-finals of the women’s international tennis tournament here yesterday by beating Hana Mandlikova 6-4, 7-6. King saved three break points in the 10th game before she clinched the first set. In the second she trailed 4-2 before recovering to win 7-3 in a tie break.


King had trouble against 17-year-old Hana Mandlikova of Czechoslovakia, but the 36-year-old American veteran’s experience finally paid off and she pulled out a 6-4, 7-6 victory. The Czech, seeded eighth, was leading 4-2 in the second set, but Mrs. King was able to pull her game together and broke Mandlikova‘s serve in the seventh game.
